Charity Spotlight: Who is A Chance in Life?

Coming up on its 75 year anniversary, A Chance In Life is a non-profit organization that continues to help thousands of children daily in so many incredible actions that truly make a difference in young lives all around the world.

The organization was first established by Monsignor John Patrick Carroll-Abbing. He first created the Boys' and Girls' Towns of Italy in 1945 to assist the countless orphans and vulnerable children on the streets as a result of World War II. The Boys' and Girls' Towns of Italy has had tremendous success and has impacted the lives of over 30,000 young people. Due to its success, the organization has expanded its mission. In 2015, A Chance In Life created the Boys' and Girls' Towns of Ethiopia. Only a year later, they created Boys' and Girls' Towns of India. Then only last year, the Boys' and Girls' towns of Latin America were established.

They assist children of all ages. Originally, Monsignor saw these desperately poor children living on the streets free of any kind of supervision and recoiled at adults telling them what to do. This independent nature inspired a visionary approach to youth development: give the children the responsibility of running their own town.

Self-government became the essence of life at the Towns, providing the citizens, as the children are called, with the skills, confidence, and creativity to become active participants in their communities and the builders of their own lives.

After finding A Chance In Life, we became interested in the project "Keep an Ethiopian Girl in School". We contacted the Vice President of the organization, Sung Loffredo, who we had an amazing conversation with and told us even more about the actions they do to help. We decided to donate funds in order to keep two girls in school for an entire year! These funds went to the housing for the girls so that could be located near their school, which makes this easier for them actually attend. The housing has a library, an auditorium, and is shared with other high school girls who they can communicate and interact with about school studies.

To support A Chance In Life even more, we have created a new category: Charity Spotlight. This is dedicated to an amazing organization that we collaborate with in creating their own custom coffee labels and filled with quality coffee of their choosing that best represents them. With this, we hope to bring more awareness to A Chance In Life and all of the future Charity Spotlights we work with. Because the more these incredible organizations succeed, the better the world becomes.
